Summer is officially here, so we put together a list of some of our favorite senior friendly activities you can do right here in the Flathead!
See Glacier National Park
This iconic destination can be senior friendly! Going-to-the-Sun Road can be viewed from the car and there are plenty of places to stop and take photos on the way. Be sure to be aware where restrooms are located along the way, back snacks and water for the day, and be prepared for traffic.
Attend Summer Festivals & Special Events
There are a ton of opportunities to get out and about in the community in the Flathead. Huckleberry Days Arts Festival, Thursday Fest, weekly Farmers Markets in Whitefish and Kalispell and more! Check out your local Chamber of Commerce events calendars to discover what is happening each month!
Go Out for Ice Cream
What better way to enjoy the summer weather than with an ice cream? There are plenty of local establishments for a fun outing – our personal favorite is the Huckleberry ice cream available at Sweet Peaks in Kalispell, Whitefish and Bigfork!
See a Show or Get Creative
The Flathead Valley offers many different activities to please your loved one’s inner artist! Between multiple theatres, including Alpine Theatre Project, Bigfork Summer Playhouse and Whitefish Theatre Company, to craft activities offered at Stumptown Art Studio in Whitefish, there are endless options to fulfill everyone’s creative side.
Take a Scenic Lift Ride at Whitefish Mountain Resort
Scenic Lift Rides up Big Mountain are a must-do in the summer. With your choice of an enclosed gondola or an open chairlift, you and your loved ones can sit back and enjoy the mountain scenery, as well as views of Whitefish Lake, the Flathead Valley and Glacier National Park on the ride to the summit.
At the top enjoy 360-degree views, have lunch at the Summit House in the full cafeteria-style restaurant and bar, and spend some time in the Summit Nature Center. The lift is open from 10am – 5:30pm and a round trip for a senior is $13.00.
Visit Local Museums
The Flathead Valley is rich in history such as logging, fishing, farming, railroad, and Native American. Book a tour or stop in for a visit at one of our great local attractions, including the Conrad Museum, Hockaday Museum of Art, Museum at Central School, and Stumptown Historical Museum in Whitefish.
If your aging loved one is up for a drive, check out the Miracle of America Museum in Polson, they have one of the largest collections of American history, containing thousands of artifacts from our recent past.
